Pythium

A plant’s roots are one of the most important parts of a plant because it is responsible for the collection of nutrients that the plant needs to sustain life. These roots can sometime come into contact with disease and pests like the Pythium genus of parasites. The Root Rot as caused by Pythium parasites are due to the formation of zoospores which infects older plants and promote necrotrophic characteristics.

It is not dependent on any kind of plant for life. In most cases it will affect any plant that it comes in contact with. It is not easily solved through crop rotation because of the fact that it infects any kind of plant. Fallowing of the soil would not help either because it can live for long periods of time from decaying plant matter.

Hydroponic systems are especially susceptible to Pythium attacks because of the exposed nature of its root systems. With the nutrient water enveloping the roots, the zoospores can freely move about and affect the entire crop.

CX Hydropnics is the leading provider of non toxic pest and disease control as well as nutrient additives that create a natural synergy with the environment.
